It’s a common query that we get asked a lot — and with good reason! Stairlift cost varies a lot depending on different features and factors.
Let’s have a look at what can affect the price of a stairlift and how much it might change. Please note that the below prices include the cost of installation and electrical work.
Is your stairlift new or reconditioned?
This is one key thing that can affect stairlift cost — is it new or reconditioned? As you might expect, reconditioned stairlifts tend to be cheaper because they’re not brand-new.
That doesn’t mean that these stairlifts are old or beat up. Any reconditioned stairlifts that we provide have been inspected, tested, and cleaned up to make sure they’re as good as new wherever they are being installed.
Understandably, a reconditioned stairlift costs less than a brand-new one. We usually say that reconditioned stairlifts usually cost about 2/3 of the price of a brand-new model.
The cost of a straight stairlift
Straight stairlifts are to be used on straight staircases and are made up of fewer components. It’s your choice if you want to include extra features on a straight stairlift but bear in mind that these will push the cost up.
For a standard brand-new straight stairlift with no extra features, you’re looking at prices from around £1700. For a reconditioned model, we’d say it’s about £1200 upwards.
If you were to include additional options like a SlideTrack, powered footplate, and powered swivel seat, you’ll be looking at just under £3000 for your brand-new straight stairlift. That’s about £2000 if it’s a reconditioned one.
Again it’s important to note that the price varies depending on the size of your staircase and whether or not you want extra stairlift track adding at either end of the staircase.
How much is a curved stairlift?
Curved stairlifts are a bit more expensive than straight ones because they use more components. We can typically fit a stairlift to any staircase; whether it’s got just one curve or four, there is a solution.
If you want a brand-new standard curved stairlift with a single bend and a basic seat, then it will cost around £4000. So it will be about £2600 for a reconditioned stairlift.
Every additional curve with add to the price because it’s extra parts and extra time to install.
To get a brand-new curved stairlift with a few curves, as well as powered swivel seat, powered footplate, and a fold-up hinge rail on the end, you’re looking at £7000 — £8000 or maybe more if your staircase is bigger.
You can also choose to have a more luxurious seat, but once again this will push the price up.
However please be aware that reconditioned curved stairlifts aren’t as common. This is because each track is made completely bespoke to each staircase, so only the seat itself can really be reconditioned.
Summary
All in all, it very much depends on what you’re wanting to include in your stairlift as to how expensive it will be. Straight stairlifts and curved stairlifts differ in prices themselves, so that’s the first thing you need to work out to determine your price.
Curved stairlifts are more expensive, and any add-ons will push the price further up as well. But you can save money by buying a reconditioned model.
