Huntington’s Disease is a progressive neurological disorder, characterised by involuntary movements, impaired cognition and postural instability. This condition greatly affects the client’s mobility, and their ability to sit comfortably and safely.
This story from one of our seating assessors captures the unique qualities of the Lento Neuro chair, and the vision we had when creating this seating solution for people with neurological conditions.
We recently did a seating assessment for an elderly lady with Huntington’s, who was presenting with very poor posture in her current chair, to the point where she was sliding out of it completely.
The condition of the chair was leading to increased involuntary movements and agitation, not only causing her more pain and distress but becoming increasingly worrying for family members witnessing this distressing situation.
When we tried sitting her in the Lento Neuro with the cocooned cushioning, the change was immediate – she visibly settled, and the involuntary movements reduced dramatically.
This miraculous change was due to sensory input from the unique design we discovered when working with Huntington’s experts and professionals. Watch the video below to learn more about how we created the chair!
Both the OT and family member at the assessment were amazed at the dramatic change that occurred from sitting her in the Lento Neuro, and the calm and composure that came over her, especially since their first impression on seeing the chair was that it looked similar to her current one.
This is testament to the calming nature of the chair’s design, providing a cocooned environment where the client feels safe and supported.
